We’re excited to announce that Rylee’s Ace Hardware will break ground on a new, single-story and expanded store at 1234 Michigan St. NE. in the next several weeks. The new store is just one block east from our long-standing location in downtown Grand Rapids at 1121 Michigan St. NE.
This is an exciting step for Rylee’s and its customers, as our new store will feature more products, services and conveniences, like our first outdoor garden area and a demonstration kitchen in our expanded housewares department. It also will offer almost three times the space and parking of our current location. And our popular Ace Fix-It shop will join us under the same roof.
The new store also represents another milestone in Rylee’s 63-year history of serving the downtown area. When my grandfather, John Rysdyk, Sr. built the current Rylee’s location in 1955, he could never have imagined the outpouring of support for his neighborhood hardware store. He built his store on the time-honored values of exceptional service, a knowledgeable staff and extraordinary product selection, which are still the hallmarks of Rylee’s today.
As the business grew and changed, we did the same, expanding several times during the last 60+ years. Our latest move is the next step forward in the growth of Rylee’s.
Our new store is scheduled to open in Spring, 2010. While we plan to sell or lease our current store building, we will continue providing you the same great products and services from this downtown location right up until our move to the new store. In other words, we envision a seamless transition for our valued customers.
On behalf of Rylee’s, I want to thank you for your continued support. I welcome your suggestions and ideas for our new store; you can make comments to any of our blog posts by becoming a registered user of our website. Rylee's Ace Hardware officially broke ground today on the new 30,000 sq. ft store located at 1234 Michigan St NE. The morning was filled with excitement as owners Todd and Lori Terpstra broke ground at the construction site. Camera's captured the milestone as news stations from Grand Rapids covered the event. Joining the ceremony were long-time customers, current employees, and other ACE store owners from around the area. Rylee's ACE closed the existing store for 45 minutes so the employees were able to enjoy the festivities at the new location. When the store re-opened at 11:00am, cake and soft drinks were served to the public. Construction begins today and will be a lengthy process for the next 9-10 months. The new store plans to be opened sometime in March with a "Grand Opening Celebration" in April or May.
